Thriving opportunities for China’s functional textiles

According to a recent report by Research and Markets, the market size for China’s functional apparel is projected to reach USD 52.5 billion by 2026 with a CAGR of 7.3%. This is attributed to the ongoing health and wellness trend which has become a fundamental driver of the global functional apparel market. The rising adoption of functionality-specific apparel and footwear and technological advancements are also key factors pushing the market forward. Consumers are pursuing breathable, stretchable and temperature adjustable casual wear, and functional apparel which is made with anti-bacterial fibres and yarns to prevent body odour.

The report also stated that consumers are eager to purchase sportswear and activewear products. Rising health-consciousness has led to more demand for apparel for gym sessions, personal training and casual work wear.

Exhibitors applaud the show

“Our business has experienced growth amid the pandemic, so we’ve brought a number of anti-bacterial products to the fair. The feedback on them has been positive. Having face-to-face interactions with clients again, rather than communicating online, has proven to be more effective. Many visitors came to the fair to source. The turnout has been higher than I expected, and we’ve already met with a number of potential customers. I think environmental protection, sustainability, functionality and antibacterial aspects will be the key trends in the textile industry.”
Mr Kent Wang, Sales Director, Shanghai Xinya New Material Technology Co Ltd

“Yarn Expo is a leading trade fair in the industry and is an ideal platform to exchange the latest market information, to promote business interactions and meet potential new customers. In terms of products, we are focusing on anti-bacterial and lyocell items as people are now concentrated on leading healthy lifestyles due to the pandemic. I think the upcoming consumer trends are health, safety, sustainability and convenience.”
Mr Simon Huang, Vice President, Commercial, Sateri
