China’s “Five-Year Plan” for the textile and apparel industry
China’s 14th Five-Year Plan indicates that the country will continue its efforts in “going global” with investment in textile and apparel factories overseas, mainly through the “Belt and Road Initiative”. According to the China National Textile and Apparel Council, China’s outbound foreign investments in the textile and apparel sector exceeded USD 6.7 billion from 2015 to 2020. Around 26.6% went to neighbouring southeast Asian countries, including Vietnam, Cambodia, Thailand, Lao and Myanmar.

Based on the plan, China will continue to increase its R&D spending to upgrade the quality and sophistication of its textile products. Grasp the opportunities from China’s Five-Year Plan by participating at Intertextile Shanghai next March!

“Celeli has joined Intertextile for many years because it is a large-scale, professional exhibition with a good reputation. The fair is an important channel to discover new customers and since the pandemic, it has brought the industry together to create more opportunities for business exchange. As a high-end fabric supplier, we saw increasing demand for high-end fabrics in China despite pandemic restrictions. In the future, I think the domestic demand for imported fabrics will continue to grow and that Asian markets, especially China’s, have huge potential.”
Ms Leanne Li, Operations Manager, Celeli (Shanghai) Trading Co Ltd, China

“Intertextile is an influential and well-known platform for the industry and we are able to discover the latest trends here. To target the market changes amid the pandemic, we have brought some functional products to the fair, including anti-bacterial viscose fibres and plant-dyed fabrics which match the current industry trends. Our export business is gradually recovering and we are optimistic about the future development of the industry.”
Ms Lynn Bao, Marketing Executive, Bros Eastern Co Ltd, China

Dual channels to reach buyers online and offline
Despite the pandemic, many local branch offices of international apparel brands attended the fair in 2021. Their sourcing activities were facilitated by one-to-one onsite business meetings, so having a booth and showcasing your products onsite are key to maintaining your presence in the Chinese market!

At the same time, exhibitors were able to connect with overseas buyers via the fair’s digital business matching platform Connect PLUS, while onsite exhibitors conducted online meetings with overseas VIP brand buyers who joined the business matching programme.
