Sustainable fashion in a post-COVID-19 world
How the pandemic has changed sustainable fashion in China’s textile industry
As the world begins its slow recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, it’s clear that new consumer behaviours span all areas of life. These dramatic shifts will have a huge impact on how consumers react to and purchase sustainable fashion in China.
With the increase in awareness about environmental protection and social justice, Chinese consumers have a sense of ‘moral anxiety’ and fear that their purchase and consumption would have an adverse impact on aggravating global warming, climate change and other social issues, according to a survey by the R.I.S.E. Sustainable Fashion Lab – around 85% consumers surveyed said they will not purchase from brands with negative environmental news.[1]
From a worldwide perspective, a new survey by the US Cotton Trust Protocol and the Economic Intelligence Unit shows that the majority (60%) of fashion, retail and textile leaders consider implementing sustainability measures as a top two strategic objective for their business.[2] These measures include sourcing sustainably produced raw materials, introducing a circular economy approach to their business, cutting greenhouse gasses, investing in 3D printing and blockchain technologies and more.
The All About Sustainability (AAS) zone at Intertextile serves as an iconic area within the fair for both exhibitors and visitors with plenty of ideas on how to be sustainable, along with the fair’s comprehensive fringe programme events including seminars, panel discussions and displays.
