Vietnam’s car imports up 50% |
|
Vietnam imported nearly 10,000 completely built cars in August.
A number of vehicles now enjoy 0% import tax in line with the Southeast Asian countries’ commitments to lower tariffs from 2018. On top of that, the 30% import tax on cars from other Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries was scrapped this year.

Vietnam's first domestic car manufacturer |
|
VinFast is set to become Vietnam’s first fully-fledged domestic car manufacturer when its first production models launch next August.
Vingroup has earmarked about US$3.5 billion for the project, and will have the capacity to produce 250,000 units of cars and 250,000 units of electric scooters annually within the next five years or so, equivalent to 92% of all the cars sold in Vietnam last year.
